For many years, Julie has volunteered with many different organizations.  Volunteering is a great way to stay connected in your interests and professional fields.  When we were raising our kids and I was in the oil industry, it was all about the PTA, the Band and baseball.  The professional organization was the SPE, or Society of Petroleum Engineers.  I also joined Toastmasters, and was  a board member and ultimately president of the local club.

After joining Coors, I found myself in the water and wastewater treatment industry, so I got active in the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association, holding positions of committee chair to board track to president.  Also, I was a charter board member of the Coors green team, CARE (Committed to Active Responsibility for the Environment), managing projects like Clear Creek Cleanup events, employee education and recycling, and chaired the board.

I was on the board of the Denver Food Rescue, an organization that gets extra food from gardens and grocers to inner city families, improving diets and health in "food deserts", and reducing food waste.

Currently I'm on two boards.  One is the United States Highpointers Club, a climbing organization dedicated to reaching the highest elevation in each state, serving as Sustainability Chair, coordinating zero waste practices at our annual conferences.  The other is a new organization that a few of us like-minded environmentalists in Golden founded, Sustainable Golden, dedicated to helping the City of Golden reach their (our) environmental goals by educating citizens, as well as advocating at the state level to protect our environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
